The new addition to Edwards Lifesciences’ Nogales based manufacturing facility was built to increase the site’s production volume so that the business could meet a growing demand for its specialist technology.
As a global leader in the production of heart valves and hemodynamic monitoring, Edwards Lifesciences knew that it was critical to commit to a high level of cleanliness to avoid contaminants affecting the delicate medical equipment being made onsite.
Therefore the floors, walls and ceiling in the plant’s new area needed to meet the requirements of a clean room environment in order to facilitate a sanitary and efficient working space.
Prior to the application of the coatings, the epoxy resin primer Flowprime was used to ensure that the epoxy finish would adhere effectively to the substrate.
A 2 mm layer of the chemical resistant epoxy floor coating Flowshield SL was applied in a custom Aqua Gray throughout the new area. The hardwearing nature of this system meant that it would be able to maintain a seamless, easy-to-clean surface for an extended period of time despite the facility’s daily operational activity.
The floor was finished with a layer of Flowseal PU Gloss, which created a light reflective, attractive lustre. Navigational signage in bright yellow was incorporated into the finish so that Edwards Lifesciences’ employees would be able to easily move around the rooms and identify where to position equipment.
